This isn’t surprising at all, given the fact that the medium of exchange use case has yet to find a home here outside of a tiny niche.
In fact, I’d guess some of the locations here are outdated, for example, it still lists the Bitcoin Center NYC at its original home, which has been closed for many years.
You have to realize that the New York BitLicense impacted this state and city dramatically, discouraging companies and individuals from exploring bitcoin as a payment option for goods and services. It’s been virtually impossible to onboard anyone onto Lightning because custodial wallets are unavailable.
It isn’t all bad news though, because there are now more self-custody options than there have ever been, and they’re getting easier to use. But we have to do the work to educate people, which is why I am dedicated to hosting meetups and talking to anyone who will listen. This is what needs to happen, and I’m here for it.
